A naval reconnaissance unit has been located here since the 1950s, which was to provide telecommunications information to the nearby coast of the former GDR. The first tower was built in 1958 and continued to operate until 1972 (now a hotel). Since this tower became too small, a new one replaced the old one in 1972.
The new tower was extremely secure. E.g. with several rows of fences and guard dogs.

The over 80-meter-high concrete block between Pelzerhaken and Rettin is an eye-catcher, a monument and a piece of history.
