Also called the clothing monument
The monument was erected in 1898 in honor of Emperor Wilhelm I. The idea of the monument was to represent the unification of the empire with stones from all areas of the new German empire. A total of 75 rock blocks characteristic of the respective location were combined to form an obelisk. The names of the respective areas and cities are carved into the stones. Where a seagull looks to the north beach today, a metal bust of Wilhelm I could be seen until the First World War. An eagle sat on the top of the monument and the edging stones were connected with an anchor chain. The heaviest stones with a weight of approx. 5 tons come from Baden-Baden, Aschaffenburg and Leipzig - the heaviest stone with 6 tons naturally comes from Berlin. The stone of the city of Cologne comes from the city wall of the Rhine metropolis and the stone from Frankfurt / Main comes from the medieval town hall, the "Römer".
