The Calais lighthouse, erected in 1848, stands proudly on the banks of the English Channel. With its 271 steps, it offers visitors a spectacular panoramic view of the port of Calais, the city and, on a clear day, the English coast. It is classified as a historic monument and remains an iconic landmark for navigation as well as tourism.

The 55 meter high Calais Lighthouse has a great location in the middle of the city between residential buildings and opposite a church.
Its hillside location recalls that it stands on a bastion of the former fortifications of Calais.
An earlier milestone for seafarers was the summit of the Tour du Guet before the current lighthouse came into use in 1848.
The lighthouse can also be visited if you are not afraid of the 271 steps.

The Calais Lighthouse rises 55 meter high right in the city between residential buildings and across from a church. The little hill was part of the former fortifications of Calais. The Tour du Guet served as a navigation landmark before the current lighthouse was commissioned in 1848.
The views from the top of the lighthouse are worth climbing its 271 steps.
