In 1995 the monastery complex was declared a national cultural monument in the Czech Republic. It is true that with the death of the last abbot in 2010, he was buried in the crypt of the Osek basilica, the monastery has been closed so far. Nevertheless, there is life in the monastery complex. In addition to the mentioned 🍺 brewery, the basilica (monastery church) was recently restored in an exemplary manner and in a very high quality. Church services/concerts take place regularly.
A regular tour of the monastery church and cloister is offered by the Tourist Office of the City of Osek (ITC), which is located in the entrance area of the monastery. The opening hours of the tourist office are:
January to April Tue to Sat 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last tour 3 p.m.) May to September
9am - 5pm (last 4pm)
October to December
9am to 4pm(last 3pm)
You can also stay overnight in the monastery in newly renovated quarters.
