In 1723 AD, Bach settled in the city of Leipzig for a quarter of a century. He made several short artistic trips to some German cities, during which he met the most famous musicians of the time and also met King Frederick the Great in 1747 AD. He presented him with a musical gift, which was a theme composed by the king himself represents. Near the end of Bach's life, his eyesight gradually began to fail until he was nearly blind by the time of his death. He was buried in St. John's Church, then the remaining remains were transferred to St. John's Church in 1894 AD. Thomas, out of loyalty and respect.

Johann Sebastian Bach (* March 21 / March 31, 1685 in Eisenach, Saxony-Eisenach; † July 28, 1750 in Leipzig, Electoral Saxony) was a German composer, cantor, court concertmaster, violinist and organ and harpsichord virtuoso of the Baroque era Thuringia. In his main creative period he was Thomaskantor in Leipzig. He is the most prominent representative of the Bach family of musicians and is today regarded as one of the best-known and most important musicians of all. He is often regarded as the greatest composer in music history, especially by professional musicians. His works influenced subsequent generations of composers and inspired musicians to create countless arrangements.

During his lifetime, Bach was highly regarded as a virtuoso, organist and organ inspector, but his compositions were only known to a relatively small circle. After Bach's death, his works fell into oblivion for decades and were rarely performed in public. After the composers of the Viennese classic period had dealt with parts of Bach's work, the Bach renaissance began in 1829 with the revival of the St Matthew Passion under the direction of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in the general public. Since the middle of the 19th century, his works have been part of the established repertoire of classical music worldwide.

His best-known works include The Well-Tempered Clavier, the St. Matthew Passion, The Art of Fugue, his Christmas Oratorio, the Brandenburg Concertos and many cantatas.

Bach worked here as Thomaskantor from 1723 to 1750 and left his mark in the Thomaskirche.

As cantor alongside Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, he influenced music history for a long time like no other and was therefore so revered. For this reason, a monument was erected to him directly in front of the building. And not only that, Bach's bones have also been in the choir area under a bronze plate since 1949 because of his work and on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death.

The Bach monument was inaugurated a little earlier, in May 1908. It is also located in the Thomaskirchhof and consists of a 2.45 meter high bronze statue designed by the sculptor Carl Seffner.

There are two notable monuments in Leipzig honoring Johann Sebastian Bach. The older of the two, the Old Bach Monument, was erected in 1843 on the initiative of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and is located on Dittrichring, near St. Thomas Church. This monument depicts Bach in a rather unusual representation, which makes it unique.

The newer Bach Monument, inaugurated in 1908, stands directly in front of the south portal of St. Thomas Church, Bach's long-time place of work. It was erected after a long debate about location and financial challenges to replace an earlier Leibniz monument. Created by the sculptor Carl Seffner, it shows Bach standing in front of an organ, in a pose that represents him as a living cantor and composer. Below the organ is a relief depicting the old St. Thomas School, where Bach also lived.

Both monuments are not only works of art, but also witnesses to Leipzig's deep musical and cultural history. They attract visitors interested in Bach's musical history and legacy. Especially during the summer months, musical events take place around the newer monument, reinforcing the atmospheric connection between the monument and its location.
