The ascent to the Hochvogel can be done via the cold angle or the Kreuzspitze. I chose the ascent via Kalter Winkel and back over the Kreuzspitze. Whether via ferrata or not, I saw no difference in difficulty in either variant. There are exposed spots even via the Cold Angle, but there are no fuses and the snow field is not without. Of course, I didn't have a backup with me, but I didn't find it to be mandatory. For beginners and inexperienced, everything about Kreuzspitze and Hochvogel is probably a no-go and some safety and experience in the alpine should be available.

Beautiful via ferrata, which is also nicely shaded when climbing up from the Prinz-Luipold-Haus. Probably more climb than a via ferrata, at least experienced alpinists can safely do without taking the via ferrata set with them, but in the end everyone has to evaluate it for themselves. It's nicer going up than going down, but that's how most via ferratas work. Alternatively, you can make the descent via the Balkenscharte (ask the innkeeper beforehand about the condition of the snowfield in the Kalten Winkel!).

The Kreuzspitze is a climb secured with a wire rope, the sure-footed alpine walker will be able to walk a lot without hand movements. If you want to get into the topic of "iron roads", you can try it out here. I didn't find the Wegerl particularly exposed, but quite beautiful (and in summer mostly nice in the shade). Less experienced mountaineers with poor surefootedness and latent altitude problems have nothing to do with the Hochvogel. So yes, assess your experience correctly and turn around in good time (i.e. before nothing works!). Anyone who falls into a KS also needs the mountain rescue service!
