Clear and steadily rising path to the large Winterberg and the Wurmberg plateau. The path was previously used by the GDR border troops for control trips.

The Bremke is 4.7 kilometers long and climbs 290 meters down to the confluence with the Warm Bode. It marked the entire border to the GDR on its entire course and today it marks the border to Saxony-Anhalt.
In the early post-war years, this path was also known as the schnapps path. Schierker Feuerstein was smuggled to Braunlage and in return herring to Schierke. After the reunification and demolition of the watchtower standing here, this resting place for hikers was created in 1995 on the initiative of the Harz Club.
