The power of water has been harnessed since the Ore Mountains were first settled. The Rolle millers have done so too. Attentiveness and respect continue to characterize the millers' relationship with nature to this day. Since the commissioning of a modern small hydroelectric power plant in 1992, the mill has once again been powered entirely by clean electricity from renewable sources.

Such a turbine system converts the kinetic and potential energy of the water into electrical energy, while the water itself remains unchanged. The dippers breeding on the mill grounds, herons fishing, and contented anglers testify to the environmental compatibility of this technology. The CO2 balance is exemplary; we avoid the emission of 1,600 tons of carbon dioxide per year. In addition, a solar system on the social and sanitary building harnesses solar energy. In times of scarce resources, we are proud of our energy management, which relies on renewable sources.
