"Created as a plaster model by the sculptor Evelyn Hartnick, the monument in the art foundry was cast in bronze by Master Horst Borchardt at Charlottenhöhe in Schönermark. It depicts three musicians who play different stands. The man with the long frock coat holds a violin one hand, another, a little more simply dressed, a flute. A singing boy is barefoot and has no musical instrument in his hands. A symbol that singing in Finsterwalde has always united all classes of society. The late 19th-century hit "We are the singers of Finsterwalde"

and the Finsterwalde Singers' Festival, named after this song, made the town famous even beyond the region. Since 2009, the additional designation "Singers' Town" has been permitted in official correspondence.

Since May 16, 2013, with the approval of the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior, the town has officially used this additional designation, including on its entrance signs.

This bronze statue commemorates the singers.
