Banz Monastery was originally designed as a castle, which is why the wooded elevations in the Banz Forest such as Kulch or Steglitz were once surrounded by ramparts. These served to protect and defend the castle. Discover the traces of the Celts in the Banzer Wald and learn more about the cultural history on the information boards. Today, Banz Monastery is an educational institution and event location. The former Benedictine monastery also houses a museum. You can learn more about the history of the monastery here. The Benedictine Abbey of Banz was the oldest monastery on the Upper Main until secularisation. The church as part of the ensemble is one of the outstanding buildings of the Franconian Baroque.
Bishop Otto von Bamberg consecrated the monastery church of Banz in 1114. After a long and eventful history, the monastery complex, with the exception of the church, was sold in 1978 to the Hanns Seidel Foundation, which was close to the CSU. They thoroughly renovated the facility and have since used it as a conference center for political education work. State-of-the-art conference technology through to the rhetoric studio and media center with radio and television studio enable a wide range of educational opportunities.
Unfortunately, the facilities that serve to relax the seminar and conference participants, such as the rustic "Bierstübla", the leisure center with indoor pool, sauna, steam bath, solarium and bowling alley, were not available to us 😊.
