A family who called themselves "von Breitmaar" after their seat has been documented since the 14th century. A little later Breitmaar came under the suzerainty of the then Hemmersbacher lords of Merode and stayed there until the end of the Ancien Régime. Only the mansion of the entire complex has its origins essentially from the 16th and 17th centuries. Further renovations were completed in 1757.
