In the Coto de los Tamboriles area are numerous dry stone walls that were once built to demarcate private property and to enclose arable fields.

The agricultural technique "dry farming" serves to increase the productivity of the field, whereby the low rainfall has been used to the maximum.

The first layer of stones was removed and used for the walls. The floor is covered with a layer of manure and another layer of lapilli (small lava stones). This technique gives the actual barren soil the properties required for farming. The fertilizer provides the necessary nutrients, the lapilli take care of temperature and moisture regulation. The lapilli absorb moisture from the air and naturally protect the soil from high temperatures. So it was possible to cultivate the soil.

Since the tourism boom in the 1970s, traditional cattle breeding and agriculture have almost ceased to exist.
