The Vacchelli Canal is a 34-kilometer engineering project commissioned by Garibaldi's Pietro Vacchelli in the late 19th century. Here we are at the beginning of the canal, where a monumental structure tells the story of the area. The Vacchelli continues toward Cremona, flanked by a beautiful dirt bike path. The Adda Cycle Route crosses it, continuing south.

The Vacchelli canal (also known as the Marzano canal) is an irrigation canal, strongly desired by senator Pietro Vacchelli and built between 1887 and 1892 by the Cremonese irrigation consortium. The canal is 34 kilometers long.
It was born from the Adda in the locality of Marzano-Bocchi, in the municipality of Merlino, near the dead of Bocchi. It then crosses the Cremasco plain passing through Spino d'Adda, Palazzo Pignano, Vaiano Cremasco and Trescore Cremasco, and then reaches Crema. Cross the river Serio by means of a bridge, continuing towards Salvirola. Here it divides: one arm flows into the Naviglio di Cremona, while the main branch continues ending at the Tombe Morte, a locality where the Naviglio di Cremona and the Naviglio Grande Pallavicino also converge. The canal is full of fish and for its entire length there is a cycle path.

The whole Vacchelli is gravel, not always "tender". So wide and not deflated tires, to avoid pinching. Gravel bike is fine, even MTB, all the others a little less.
