March 25, 2001:
After countless project and financing discussions carried out in advance, with the great personal commitment of the then ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel, manual construction work could begin in March 2001. On March 25, 2001 the old ski jump tower was spectacularly blown up. The Brenner motorway in the immediate area and the rail systems made the demolition a complicated project, but in the end there was no damage to either transport route.
04.01.2002:
Despite numerous doubts and the ever-increasing media pressure, those responsible managed to make the new ski jump ready for jumping in time for the 50th Bergisel ski jump. The first victory on the new Bergiselschanze was taken by the German Sven Hannawald, who was able to win all four jumps in the legendary jumping series for the first time in history during this tour. For safety reasons, the stadium could not be completely filled, but there were still 22,000 fans in the stadium.

From the center of Innsbruck comfortably reachable in 45 minutes. The short walk leads past the Andreas Hofer monument and offers a beautiful view of Innsbruck and the Nordkette. You can also get a ticket and visit the Bergisel Stadium and the viewing platform of the diving tower.

The panorama path around the mountain with sky walk is recommended. It starts right at the parking lot at the museum and ends at the main entrance to the ski jump. The elevator takes you to the café in the tower. Entrance to the site with a lift costs 10 €.

The Bergiselschanze was last built by the Austrian Ski Association in 2001 after several renovations. Thanks to the special architecture of star architect Zaha Hadid, the Bergiselschanze is not only a sports area, but also a sight. It is one of the most visited Innsbruck attractions. You can buy your ticket to visit the famous attraction at the entrance to the sports stadium. Afterwards you can take a tour of the extensive grounds on your own. This is how we did it: Just to the right behind the ticket office, steps lead up to the Olympic flame. The Olympic flame burned here during the Olympic Games in Innsbruck in 1964 and 1976. Today we stand at the plaques dedicated to the Olympic champions. You can see the large holders for the fire and the Olympic rings.
