    Barbara Uthmann (1514 - 1575) adorns the fountain named after her on the Annaberg market. She dealt in lace and trimmings and thus became a successful entrepreneur of her time.

      Barbara was a daughter of Heinrich von Elterlein and his wife Ottilia née Arnold. Whether she was born in Annaberg or in Elterlein is a matter of debate in Erzgebirge local research. Although she successfully continued the business of the Saigerhütte, she failed as a result of intrigues from the competition. So she was forced to look for another field of activity. The fact that she actually had bobbin lace manufactured in the manner of the publishing system cannot be historically proven, but her work as a publisher of braids can. At times she employed 900 braid weavers. After her death, she left a remarkable life's work and is still one of the extraordinary personalities of the Ore Mountains.

        The Uthmann fountain was created in 1886 by. The original was melted down during the Second World War, and today's monument was rebuilt in 2002. Ms. Uthmann achieved fame as a publisher of lace.
