The Liborius Chapel, built in 1499, together with the Werra Bridge built in 1223, represents a unique building ensemble on the banks of the Werra in the city of Creuzburg.
The "Friends of the Liborius Chapel Creuzburg e.V." endeavors to preserve this late medieval building and to make it known to a broad public after a comprehensive renovation initiated by him (2007 to 2013).

The landgravine Elisabeth, who was canonized in 1235, enjoyed living at the Creuzburg and gave birth to her first son (Hermann II) there in 1222. This seems to have been the reason for creating a very special monument to this fascinating female figure with wall paintings in the Liborius Chapel, built in 1499, in 1520 and preserving her history for posterity. She is the most important female personality of the High Middle Ages in Thuringia and Hesse.

The Liborius Chapel was founded in 1499. The murals in the chapel depict, among other things, the life of Saint Elizabeth, whose ancestral home was Creuzburg Castle. The more than 500-year-old frescoes can also be viewed in person, but not during the winter. Then, a QR code with a 360° image of the interior can be viewed. Incidentally, all of the paintings can also be seen again as photos in St. Nicholas Church in the city center.
