The keep, popularly known as "Fat Henry," is part of a medieval fortification, presumably built in the 13th century. It served to protect a medieval long-distance trade route. In the 16th century, many old defensive walls and towers were demolished, or the old structures were extensively converted into representative buildings. At that time, the old keep received a Renaissance dome with an integrated belfry. It was rebuilt to its current form in 1975, and the extension and opening to the public took place on the occasion of the town's 700th anniversary in 1992. Today, climbing the tower provides a wealth of information about its history, and from a height of 31 meters, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the town and the Zschopau Valley.
