The Walkenbrückentor was first mentioned in 1339 as part of the medieval city fortifications. The other five gates of the Coesfeld city fortifications no longer exist and the Walkenbrückentor was also badly damaged towards the end of the Second World War. Today it is home to the city museum with extremely interesting exhibitions. Well worth a visit.
