        The church of St. Lambertus in Kalkum is located at Oberdorfstrasse 31 and was first documented in 1206. The church was one of the early village churches that were built in the Neuss deanery in the 11th or 12th century. In the northern area of the county of Berg, these were small three-aisled, flat-roofed pillar basilicas. At this early date the church was under the control of the Abbess of Gandersheim. This monastery had further benefices in the Kalkum trust. The Kalkumer Mühle, for example, initially belonged to the Gandersheim Abbey. The Kalkum parish included Angermund, Rahm and a northern part of Rath. The parish was relatively wealthy. In terms of tax revenue from 1308, the parish in the Neuss deanery was in sixth place out of 59.
