    A beautiful cathedral, which you can also visit. From the viewpoint Montaña de Arucas you can see the cathedral very well from above, it shapes the entire cityscape.

      The parish church of San Juan Bautista ('St. John the Baptist'), the symbol of the city, was built in 1909-1917 according to plans by the Catalan architect Manuel Vega y March in neo-Gothic style and is often incorrectly referred to as a cathedral, although it is not an episcopal church . The building material, dark Aruca basalt (lava that has cooled very slowly), is very weather-resistant and is still used by some of the city's stonemasons and quarried in local quarries (canterías).
