The church of St. Magdalena is located on the "Thuringian Chain of Towns" cycle path and is slightly higher than the town of Lehnstedt itself. The oldest parts of the church date from the 12th century. Typical of many churches in Thuringia, the so-called “Thuringian hood” protrudes from the central building. The church is closed outside of regular church services.

The oldest parts of the church date back to the 12th century. Several members of the Bach family shaped the church music life of the place.
In the room there is a stone altar and a baptismal font as well as the lectern. August Witzmann built the organ in 1840. A flat ceiling in the choir has strong colors. The blue-tinted barrel and gallery surrounds the nave on four sides. The color design was carried out after a fire between 1798 and 1802. The clockwork from 1855 was renovated in 1987 and received new dials in 2005.
