Cawdor Castle is a traditional Scottish castle, built and lived in by the Cawdor family for over 600 years. Its medieval tower is constructed around a legendary holly tree. The castle is perhaps best known for its role in Shakespeare's Macbeth, in which Macbeth himself becomes 'Thane of Cawdor' after the previous Thane was captured and executed for treason.
Today, visitors can explore the castle and extensive surrounding gardens. Paid entry, seasonal opening.
