    The Teutoburg Forest/Eggegebirge Nature Park is a nature park founded in 1965 in north-eastern North Rhine-Westphalia.
    After expanding the area in 2008, the nature park in the southern Teutoburg Forest and in the Egge Mountains is the second largest in North Rhine-Westphalia and the sixth largest in Germany with 2751 km².
    The nature park administration is based in the hiking competence center below the Hermann monument in Detmold-Hiddesen.
    The Teutoburg Forest/Eggegebirge Nature Park, together with the Rhineland Nature Park, took first place in the "Naturpark.2009.NRW" state competition for nature parks in North Rhine-Westphalia with its "Naturally Healthy" concept.
    In 2015, 1st place was won in the state competition for nature parks with the topic "Regional Products - Regional Identity".
    In the period 2017-2020, the ERDF project "Children's adventure world nature" was processed.
    So are the Hörmuseum Blankenrode, the "Natti-Runde" in Ottbergen, the discovery tour:
    From Hermann to Velmerstot, the adventure map, the digital children's tour and three GPS paths (themes of forest, orchards and Altenau renaturation) were created.
    The "Familien.Zeit.Natur." project has been running since 2018, which took 2nd place in the 2018 state competition for nature parks in North Rhine-Westphalia on the subject of living (or experiencing) home.
    Interactive teaching trails (Altenau near Lichtenau, bird baptism in Holzhausen-Externsteine), art events (Hermann monument), a bike tour (Altenau near Lichtenau) and six treasure hunts with treasure chests distributed throughout the nature park have already been implemented in the nature park.

      The cattle are not completely free-roaming. There are already divided pasture areas, but you can enter them. Always make sure that you do not disturb the cattle and please, if you have dogs with you, put them on a leash (it is mandatory anyway). I keep seeing people walking around there with free-roaming dogs, it can end badly.
