Susch German and officially Süs until 1943
There are Bronze and Iron Age finds on the hills of Chaschlins, Padnal, Motta da Palü and Chaschinas. Susis was first mentioned in 1161, and Süs was the official German name until 1943. The La Praschun tower is mentioned around 1200, the Plant tower probably dates from the 13th century. The Lords of Süs have been documented since 1299. In 1325 Susch and Lavin broke away from Ardez ecclesiastically, since 1422 it has been its own parish. The developed pasture areas in the Flüela and Vereina valleys were sold to Davos and the Prättigau communities in the 14th and 16th centuries. The village of Susch was destroyed by Austrian troops in 1499 during the Swabian War. In the Gothic church of San Jon, which was built around 1515, the well-known disputation of the Engadine clergy took place in 1537-1538. In 1550 Susch introduced the Reformation. The first Reformed pastor was Ulrich Campell. In 1635, Duke Henri II de Rohan and Jörg Jenatsch built the star-shaped Fortezza fortress on Chaschinas. In 1652 Susch bought his freedom from Austria and until 1851 belonged to the municipality of Obtasna. In 1742 the baroque-style gallery and organ were built into the church.
Until the construction of the Engadin line of the Rhaetian Railway in 1913, Susch lived mainly from traffic over the Flüela Pass. In 1925 a large village fire raged. In 1999, the Vereina Tunnel opened, leading to an increase in employment in the service sector, which accounts for 65 per cent of jobs.

Susch is a small, original village in the Engadine and is idyllically located on the Inn. Here one still speaks mostly Gruner Romansh. Characteristic of the village are the village church and two stone towers from the Middle Ages.

In the village there is the "Muzeum Susch", a museum of modern art in an old brewery.
