Where today an attractive lake landscape attracts countless bathers, the center of lignite extraction used to be. On around five and a half hectares of land, you will find a site typical of opencast mining in the park, which shows you the entire production cycle in an authentic and comprehensible manner.
The two large machines from the former Espenhain opencast mine are particularly impressive: the huge bucket wheel excavator and the impressive belt ejector, also known as a stacker.
