As usual a perfect stop on a Sunday afternoon ride. Busy but always possible to find a spot at the harbour. Good coffee and apple pie.

Many Amsterdammers come here who want to live outside the city but also in it. This dike also looks like a village but then a chic village where everyone places their picnic table in the grass. Tuindorp Nieuwendam was built around 1926 and was seen as the most beautiful working-class village in Europe. In the middle of the village at Nieuwendammerdijk 297 lies café 't Sluis, for more than 100 years: cafehetsluis.nl. A typical old-fashioned café with a beautiful terrace overlooking the old harbor. Centuries ago, ships were waiting at this lock for cargo or good wind. This also means that there are captain houses and warehouses on Nieuwendammerdijk, such as at 262 and 248-250. Then, outside the dikes, that is. If you have had enough of the bike ride, then between May and October on Sunday afternoon you can take your bike from the café to the central station on the sympathetic IJ-neighborhood ferry, check the times: sega-amsterdam.nl/ij- buurtveer-amsterdam-move /.
