          The Ponta de São Lourenço is the easternmost peninsula in Madeira. It is 9 km long and 2 km wide, including the two islets lhéu da Cevada and Ilhéu da Ponta de São Lourenço. This area was declared a nature reserve in 1982 with the aim of preserving its fauna, flora and geological heritage. The vegetation on the Ponta de São Lourenço is very characteristic and unique within the Macaronesia area due to the numerous endemic plants. In addition to lush vegetation, you can also find many species of birds and even some sea lions in this nature reserve.
