The Reifenberg ruins in Oberreifenberg are the highest medieval castle in the Taunus and still offer an impressive sight. The ancestral seat of a warlike family experienced some destruction, but remained a "solid mountain house" until it was demolished at the end of the 17th century.

The start of construction of the ancestral seat of the Reiffenberg family (from "Riffinberg"), who were later divided into the Westerwald and Wetterau lines and were considered wild, feud-loving and invincible, remains a mystery.
