In front of the Cadolzburg there was a planned market settlement early on - around 1300 - which was increasingly fortified in the centuries that followed. Unfortunately, almost all the houses burned down during the Thirty Years' War and were rebuilt over decades of work, which can be easily understood from the dates on the houses. Even today, the representative half-timbered gables mostly face the market square and testify to the modest wealth of their builders.

Meaning of Brestlas:
Source BR ca. 2008: "Breschtli" is what people in the Swabian-Franconian Ries crater area call their strawberries, in the rest of Bavaria they say "Brestling", which is also the name of a big, fat person. In High German, this is the "Pröbstling", derived from the "Pröbsten", these were important ecclesiastical dignitaries who also had a good time and were therefore usually an impressive physical appearance. "Pröbstling" or "Brestling" stands for a fat person as well as for particularly thick and large strawberries.
