NSG Selmsdorfer Traveufer
The nature reserve stretches from Lübeck-Schlutup to the tip of the Teschower peninsula, with the bank still belonging to Schleswig-Holstein and the slopes to Mecklenburg. The main component of the protected area is a largely inactive, predominantly sandy-gravelly steep bank (cliff) of the Untertrave. Until 1990 it was in the so-called death strip on the inner-German border. Formerly used as coppice and sheep pasture and then repeatedly cut free by the GDR border troops, today there is almost undisturbed forest development in large areas. Open, sandy relict sites are still present in some areas of the steep slopes, especially at the edges, with the typical warmth and light-loving plant species such as velvet, nodding toadflax or the rare pasque flower. In this way, a diverse mosaic of different habitats has been created in close interlinking, ranging from poor grass to pioneer bushes and pre-forest stages to species-rich mixed forest with diverse undergrowth. In the bank area there are also rinsing lines and beach walls with chickweed and beach rye. In areas with freshwater spring outlets, reed beds with angelica, swamp goose thistle or spring grass grow.
Even today there are no roads leading into the area, so that only parts of the area can be hiked. The peace and quiet are unique.

Within the richly structured forest, left to its own devices, there are numerous groups of animals and plants whose species richness is still insufficiently known. However, the first random surveys of the moths showed, for example, that numerous remarkable and endangered species occur here. For that reason alone, a forest that has been spared from the usefulness of conventional forestry is a very special treasure.
