The Rauhe Kulm is one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Germany. The volcano - which never erupted, by the way - owes this title to the Heinz Sielmann Foundation, which awarded the prize in 2013. At 682.5 meters above sea level, it is also one of the most impressive basalt mountains in Bavaria and has been protected as a natural monument since 1949. From its summit, there are fantastic panoramic views far across the landscape of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The basalt mountain can be found in Neustadt am Kulm, the smallest town in the Upper Palatinate.

At the beginning the basalt stones are already worth seeing, then follows a stony, steep path up to the observation tower, I was there in April when the trees had no leaves, super beautiful views and a rest area with a view of the park stone.

Fantastic 360Gard view from the tower to Neustadt am Kulm, the surrounding villages and in the distance you can even see the basalt volcano Parkstein.
