The neo-Gothic cast-iron Gerhard fountain is located on Schlossplatz in Rendsburg and was named in honor of the sponsor of Rendsburg, the Schauenburg count Gerhard III. cast by the Rendsburger Carlshütte.

Even today, the name "Schlossplatz" bears witness to the importance of Rendsburg as a medieval residence of the counts of Schauenburg. Here was the Reinholdsburg, first mentioned in 1199, which probably stretched from Denkerstraße to Pannkokenstraat and from Mühlengraben to Torstraße. The ramparts were razed in 1663 and the dilapidated castle was demolished in 1718. Today, the square is characterized by the Holy Spirit Hospital, built in 1760, and a heterogeneous peripheral development of historic buildings and new buildings.

In 1881, the cast-iron "Gerhardsbrunnen" was built in the center of the palace square, which was manufactured in the Büdelsdorfer Carlshütte. The neo-Gothic cast iron tabernacle is reminiscent of Count Gerhard III. von Schauenburg (1293 - 1340), who granted Rendsburg the "Big City Privilege" in 1339 and also gave the city additional land.

The palace square was redesigned in 2005. Next to the Gerhardsbrunnen there is a city model that reflects Rendsburg around the middle of the 17th century.

In the middle of the Schlossplatzlatz stands the Gerhardsbrunnen from 1881, a casting from the Carlshütte in neighboring Büdelsdorf. He is reminiscent of Count Gerhard III, the Great (de grote Gerd), to which Rendsburg owes its written city charter (1339). A bronze casting next to it shows the cityscape of Rendsburg in the mid-17th century. For a long time the place was used for the weekly market.
