Nevers is an old city that was said to have existed in Roman times. The narrow streets of the city center invite you for a walk and lead you from the banks of the Loire to the Palais Ducal and the cathedral Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte.

Nevers has been growing on a hill above the Loire since Gallo-Roman times. In the 5th century the place developed into an important center of monastic culture.

The Cathedral of St-Cyr et Ste-Juliette has a special feature. It has two apses and therefore two choirs, i.e. H. a Romanesque choir in the west and a Gothic one in the east

As an international place of pilgrimage in honor of Saint Bernadette, Nevers seamlessly ties in with its religious traditions as a “holy city”. By the way, the embalmed body of Bernadette Soubirous rests in the chapel of the Saint-Gildard monastery. The Duke's Palace is one of the most beautiful examples of early Renaissance architecture.
