The Protestant church of St. Pankratius is a Baroque building from 1721. It replaces a nearly completely burned down predecessor on the northern side of the Unstrut. The barrel vault was decorated by the Horsmar painter Johannes Rieden in 1754 with colorful scenes from Christ's life. The altar decorated with four Corinthian columns dates from 1821 (Wikipedia).

According to tradition, St. Pancras was publicly executed at the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th century under Emperor Diocletian because of his Christian faith. The body of the martyr was buried on the Roman Via Aurelia - in the catacombs later named after him - under today's church "San Pancrazio". His feast day is on May 12th, he is one of the three so-called "ice saints" in popular piety, together with Servatius and Bonifatius (in some areas supplemented by "Cold Sophie" one day later).
