Planned by Penzel Werner, the Neustädter Kirche was built between 1725-1737 for the growing number of Lutheran. Immigrants erected. The church tower is the highest in Erlangen (60 m). The ceiling frescoes, the magnificent pulpit altar and the altar painting are worth seeing. The crypt of Sophie Caoline Marie is in the basement. Numerous nobles are also buried here.

In 1904 an extensive interior renovation was carried out. The glazed side parts of the pulpit altar were replaced by masonry and the room behind was equipped with a false ceiling. This resulted in today's sacristy, which has since been used regularly for smaller services, for example for the Sunday morning service. After the church and in particular the high-quality ceiling paintings by Christian Leinberger were severely damaged in the Second World War, this was repaired in 1955.

From 1979 to 1982 an extensive total renovation took place. The church was completely closed; the congregation had to move to the Lutheran parish hall on Bohlenplatz, the former German-Reformed church, for their services. For the 250th anniversary of consecration in 1987, the church received a new communion table, which was placed closer to the church pews than the previous altar, financed essentially by a generous individual donation.
