Monheim is a town in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries and the seat of the administrative community Monheim.
Monheim was born in 7./8. Century. In 870 the Benedictine monastery was founded in the village. The elevation of Monheim to the city was carried out by the Counts of Oettingen before the year 1340. The Ackerbürgerstädtchen was the seat of a Pflegamtes and belonged since 1505 to 1777 came to Bavaria Wittelsbach duchy Neuburg-Sulzbach.
Monheim is the smallest and northernmost town in the district of Donau-Ries and is located on the old trading and salt road - the present federal highway 2 - halfway between Nuremberg and Augsburg. This is where the Bavarian tribes of Swabia, Franconia and Altbayern meet.
