The oratory of S. Maria Maddalena has since its origins inextricably linked to the ancient medieval hospice for pilgrims.
This is witnessed since 1169 when the oratory, mentioned in a document drawn up on the island is called: "S. Maria Maddalena et hospitale ”. The current monumental complex is in the essential lines the result of the restructuring carried out in 1506 by Count Gabriele Giovio, however, altered by subsequent restoration work.
The Romanesque oratory, dating back to the 11th-12th century, has a single nave terminated by a semicircular apse, along the longitudinal walls there are double splayed windows. Outside the gutter line a strip of hanging arches winds along the entire perimeter and the semicircle of the apse.

Ossuccio is located in the municipality of Tremezzina on Lake Como. It is a rich and varied area characterized by numerous testimonies of history, art and religion. In addition to the Sacro Monte, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003, the unique bell tower of the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Ospedaletto is among the numerous sights. It is famous for its Gothic-Moorish tower, which was built on top of the existing Romanesque bell tower. The old bell tower originally ended above the current mullion window.
