The view across the Rossneckar River to the houses on the Inner Bridge is called "Little Venice." At the city archives, a narrow passage leads down to the Kesselwasen, where two waterwheels are still in operation. I highly recommend strolling through the alleys here. 🤩👍🏻

A narrow passage at the city archives leads a few steps down to the Kesselwasen, where mills were documented as early as 1428 and two water wheels are still in operation today. They powered machines and turbines until the 20th century and have been preserved as a testament to industrialization. The people of Esslingen affectionately call the view over the Rossneckar to the houses on the Inner Bridge "Little Venice".

Today, people enjoy the high quality of living and staying on the Neckar. There are many beautiful things to discover during a walk along the Esslingen Neckar canals: the picturesque Little Venice, the old water wheels, the Hammer Canal with its Art Nouveau villas and finally the idyllically located water house.

The water wheels

Mills were documented in Esslingen as early as 1428. Two water wheels near Little Venice - hidden behind the large weeping willow - are still in operation today. They powered machines and turbines until the 20th century and have been preserved as a testament to industrialization. They are still used to generate energy today and generate 8 kW of electricity.
