The RaVeL continues towards Mariembourg and Hastiere.
This little trip is marked by the seal of the Belle Epoque railway. Everything was established in the 19th century to open up this region, yet at the heart of famous industrial regions. Between Lille and Thionville, between Charleroi and the North of France, everything contributed to this region and this line being a driving force, a rallying point.
Since then, the railway has abandoned its tracks to rail tourism, nature lovers, or even the ravellist ... And for us, that's fine!
The RAVeL of Line 156 starts at Mariembourg. The old particular stronghold of this small town was designed in 1546 by Jacques Du Broeucq. It is a center of interest in the municipality of Couvin, in particular due to the fact that the Chemin de Fer à Vapeur des Trois Vallées has its headquarters there.
You will cross the Viroin-Hermeton Natural Park where wild, picturesque landscapes and large woods alternate. In summer, these decorations are very green, with a permanent softness. Spring and fall are very colorful. Sure, the long straight lines can feel monotonous at times, but there are several seating areas with tables and benches.
Little by little, you head towards the valley of the Meuse, to meet one of the most beautiful cycle routes in Europe.
