Built by the Italians in 1913 against a possible Austrian attack from the nearby border, the fort stands on the Balden ridge at 1675 rn above sea level, south of the Bocchetta di Naole, overlooking the Ferrara-Spiazzi valley. To build it, the Italian engineers built a long military road, of constant width, which from Lumini goes up to Pra Bestemà, to the two Pozze and reaches the fort with numerous hairpin bends (subsequently extended up to Costabella and, as a mule track, up to the Telegrafo refuge ).

In 1914 the fort was equipped with a barracks to house the troops and two artillery posts, one to the north and one to the south. For some years some television repeaters have been installed in the highest part, while the southernmost part has been used also as a summer stable. Privately owned, it is now in a serious state of decay.
