The stone dumps of the Steinsburg on the Kleiner Gleichberg near Römhild in Thuringia are a sea of volcanic rock formed by the eroding basalt blocks of the former volcano. They line the slopes of the basalt cones and are a typical feature of the crumbling volcanic ruins of the Gleichberg Mountains. The term "Steinsburg" probably derives from these large stone fields surrounding the mountain plateau. In Celtic times, these basalt blocks were used to build dry-stone walls for the oppidum (hilltop settlement) built around the mountain.

The fountain in the newly designed market was decorated with great animal figures. A real eye-catcher and secretly already a photo motif. Artist Claudia Katrin Leyh has carefully thought through the arrangement of her future animal ensemble at the fountain of the cattle market - so the Glücksburg serves as a backdrop. Here you are standing directly on the edge of one of the basalt slopes that are so typical of the Kleiner Gleichberg. Across the slightly hilly landscape of the Gabfeld, the ridge of the Thuringian Forest can be clearly seen in the distance. An engraved panoramic stone plaque explains the individual peaks.

The village of Gleichamberg lies directly at your feet, and behind it stretches the Milz floodplain. The view stretches far over the slightly hilly landscape of the Grabfeld.

Looking west (and north), the mountains of the Rhön come into view across the western grave field. An engraved stone tablet explains the visible peaks of the neighboring mountains. To the north, the neighboring twin, the Kleiner Gleichberg, also dominates.

The Thuringian view from the Großer Gleichberg extends mainly to its nearby twin, the Kleiner Gleichberg. In addition, the ridge line of the Thuringian Forest is clearly visible on the horizon.
