The church tower was originally a Romanesque defensive tower from the 13th century. The round-arch friezes that adorn the tower at a height of approximately four meters are typical of this period. After the tower lost its function as a defensive structure, the villagers established a chapel on the ground floor. The chapel in the tower was repeatedly expanded over the centuries; the current extension dates from 1664.

The parish church of St. Joseph in Allershauen delights visitors with its fascinating Baroque and Empire-style ornamentation in the single-nave interior. The church has a single nave. The interior features a blend of Baroque and Empire styles. The two domes depict the marriage and death of St. Joseph. On the left side of the nave is a commemorative plaque with a portrait of Abbot Joseph of Neustift, the church's builder. A crucifix from the school of the Landshut master, Hans Leinberger, hangs at the exit.
