Not only ancient history has left its mark on Altenstein Castle, but also the division of Germany. The ensemble is quite interesting.

What a work of art! We suspect the building behind it is an art barn or something similar. The town of Asbach has spruced itself up nicely. 👍

North of the Dietzenröder Stein is the Vatteröder Stein (approx. 465 m). There, too, is a small rock face with beautiful views of Vatteröde and Fretterode.

A document found during the demolition of the old church indicates that the first old church was demolished in 1779. It was immediately rebuilt. A cornerstone bearing the year 1581 was also found during the demolition. This is likely the year the first old church was built. Two bells bearing the year 1582 are located in the belfry. These bells were therefore installed one year after the completion of the first church. After extensive reconstruction work, the village church was rededicated on October 22, 1978, and is named after the central Christian concept of reconciliation. The village church of Asbach was built towards the end of the 18th century on the site of the previous building that had been demolished. After extensive renovation, it was re-consecrated in 1978 and has since been called the Church of Reconciliation.
