A church on the market square in Schalkau that is definitely worth seeing.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Johannis is located in Schalkau in the Sonneberg district of Thuringia. On paths that have not been used for a long time, the route climbs steeply over the High Thuringian Slate Mountains. Narrow streams wind their way through the mountain forest. You will explore historic kiln sites, abandoned ore mines, mountain meadows and fresh springs. Like the factory owners once did (workers in what was then the largest factory in the Duchy), we walk between the glass city of Lauscha and Rauenstein.
