Even the drive along the practically single-lane road is an adventure. There are only a few places to stop. However, the large parking lot is a good starting point for hiking into the gorge (warning: only experienced hikers can reach the bottom!) and to the hermitage.

Contrary to a description that the George de Galamus is car-free, I cannot agree in September. Cars drove through the gorge from both directions. So pedestrians, cyclists and cars shared the narrow road. It is possible that car traffic is regulated in the summer months. When I drove through - in September - the sign vent violent / strong wind was justified. That does not change the fact that the gorge is worth seeing. It is definitely worth seeing.

The Galamus gorges are classified and protected. They were dug over the centuries by the Agly river, and to this day constitute a precipice several tens of meters deep. A superb trail accessible by bike and on foot allows you to admire them for approximately two kilometers. The site is popular for swimming and canyoning.

Located in the Corbières massif, Rennes-le-Château offers lovely views of the Corbières massif from its belvedere. This hilltop town has been famous since Father Saunière (village priest) undertook work at his expense, revealing a mysterious personal fortune. The media hype that followed placed the village at the heart of numerous more or less conspiracy theories and myths of forgotten treasures (ranging from a Gallic treasure from the Volques to the treasure of the Templars).
