Authentic village, many artisan shops

This charming medieval village is classified among the most beautiful villages in France and has a rich history and heritage. Château les Ruillers is a 15th century castle located on a hill overlooking the Sioule valley, rectangular in plan with four round towers at the corners. The castle is private property and not open to the public, but you can admire it from the outside. The Château les Ruillers is a fine example of medieval architecture in Auvergne.

Charroux is classified as one of the "Plus beaux villages de France" (most beautiful villages in France). Charoux owned two parishes and parish churches in the Middle Ages, one of which, St. Jean-Baptiste, belonged to the Diocese of Clermont and was under the Commandery of the Templar Order of La Marche, while the other, St. Sébastien, belonged to the Archdiocese of Bourges and the Priory of Saint-Germain-de-Salles was under.
