The “Principality of Laàs” is a particularly friendly place worth seeing; on the “Boulevard Laàs Vegas” you can meet well-known and lesser-known people with a connection to the community. At the entrance to the town you will be greeted by a customs house with a barrier :-)

Nice path along the meadows and fields! Prefer mountain biking especially in winter, a part ends in single which can be muddy

Located on the route of the Santiago de Compostela trail, as the statues and shell signs found in the town remind us, Navarrenx is a member of the association of the most beautiful villages in France. The town has a remarkable heritage. This medieval bastide has the particularity of being one of the first fortified cities in France. It has an austere and military side and presents classical style buildings.

A walk where you cross mountain streams and countryside landscapes

This ancient hospital foundation dates back to the 12th century and is located on the Pyrenean foothills of the Way of Saint James!

When we came around the curve here, we saw the peaks of the Pyrenees for the first time, albeit in haze or clouds! A special moment on our journey!

In the past, at no. 15 and no. 5, there was a pilgrim hostel that belonged together. With Covid this has been closed. A French-English Couple bought #5 cheaply and have been doing so since Dec 2021. However, it looks more like "chambres d'hotes" and investment property. The double room costs 50,- and we didn't get any sheets or towels. In a room with a bunk bed we would have paid 25 euros per person. There is only one shared bathroom. Breakfast from 7:00 a.m. costs another 5,-. That doesn't seem very pilgrim-oriented to us. But since this is almost the only option in town, it's a matter of "supply and demand". The terrace is an oasis of calm on the city wall.
