The Tighjettu refuge is the 4th refuge of the GR 20, leaving the cirque de la solitude by the Col Perdu. It has a capacity of 48 beds, but don't be fooled. Remember to book your bed well in advance. Small bonus, you will have the possibility of swimming in the river below.

La Bergerie de Ballone offers wonderful family cuisine with artisanal charcuterie and sheep's cheese. It is also possible to order refreshments there. Please note that the refuge offers tent pitches (and tent rental) but you will not find a hard bed under a roof.

I initially tried staying at Refuge Tighiettu but they told me there were no more spare tents for hire so walked to Bergerie de Ballone instead and I'm so glad I did! I hired a tent and it came with an actual mini mattress and I slept really well. I had the best dinner on the trail and the staff were super super friendly. Also, HOT SHOWER! Great experience overall.

Haut Asco is a ski resort and the refuge has many beds which meant I got to have a whole dormitory to myself even during the peak season in August! There is also a hotel nearby and it has a really nice restaurant and a little shop that sells many essentials as well as fresh fruit and bread. I ate dinner at the refuge (€19, veggie soup, Corsican veal stew pasta, and cheese for dessert) and it was probably one of the best dinners I had so far at this point. There was an information session about the next stage (in French) which was helpful.

Pretty hut, funny shape, nice atmosphere, small shop, cooking facilities in the shade under the hut ... are among the pluses; the toilets definitely among the minuses; However, the question of the reasonableness of the prices in the huts in general? Questionable. But we had fleas and bedbugs in the bed camp, but we didn't know that until the next day... At least the staff reacted and destroyed the vermin (the sleeping area was sprayed). Even if with one: That wouldn't be so bad, all those stitches...

I can't add much to that: the Refuge has good espresso and self-squeezed orange juice(!), Corsican omelettes and much more. Next to it a restaurant (and yes: you don't want to eat pasta every night!) and a snack bar - we were very satisfied with so much choice! 🙂

Nice Bergerie, the food is highly praised. - However: the landlord does not respond to overnight requests :-/ neither to (multiple) emails (in English, French, German) nor to (multiple) text messages, WhatsApp nor does he answer phone calls (because it is a foreign area code?).

On the Asco plateau, in the resort at an altitude of 1,422 metres, this hardstanding refuge can accommodate 36 people. There is also something to charge devices and plenty of pitches for tents.
