The trail itself is fantastic, and the many bunkers, some of which have been integrated into the trail, make the walk even more interesting. On weekends, you're rarely alone here, and not even acoustically, as the nearby mountain road is often used by groups of motorcyclists.

The view is almost all the way around and is very impressive. Furthermore, the mountain is a kind of open-air necropolis: many inscriptions carved into the rock commemorate the fierce battles and, above all, the fallen on both sides.

Magnificent small glacial formation lake. Less known than other Vosges lakes, Lac de la Maix is nevertheless one of the most beautiful in the region. We will appreciate its isolation and the almost mystical aspect that emerges from it. It's no surprise that many legends surround it!

Beautiful trail where it is possible to visit several bunkers. Even if the noise of the neighboring departmental road sometimes takes us out of our thoughts, we can only appreciate this place which, like many others here, bears witness to the region's rich past.

The following legend is reported about the Lac de la Maix: On a pilgrimage day, an unknown musician came and made the villagers dance after playing the violin. They danced with such zeal that they did not hear the bell that called to mass. It has been suggested that the stranger is the devil himself. The punishment was not long in coming, the earth opened up under the dancers, who were drowned in the lake that rose up from the earth. Villagers were condemned to continue dancing there until Judgment Day. Today it is said that on some evenings you can still hear the violinist... "what an incredible robber's pistol" :-D

Despite its 50 meters less, the Petit Donon has nothing to envy to its big brother, the Donon, over which it offers a magnificent view. Going up there is well worth the detour.
