This is where Martin Luther went to school in Mansfeld.

St. George's Church was built between 1497 and 1518. It's a very beautiful, imposing church; next to it is the former school that Martin Luther attended. Unfortunately, the church was still closed, and I arrived much too early.

The Benedictine monastery is located in the village of Klostermansfeld on the Luther Trail. Unfortunately, everything was closed, so I was only allowed to admire and photograph it from the outside.

The three-nave Romanesque basilica was the church of a former Benedictine monastery. Since the Reformation it has been the parish church of the Protestant community. Its current design and atmosphere can be traced back to an extensive refurbishment in the 1960s. A monastery garden with kitchen herbs, medicinal plants and dye plants was laid out in the churchyard according to the monastery plan of St. Gallen.

Actually quite inconspicuous but still appealing.

Almost nothing reliable is known about the life of Saint George, to whom this place of worship is dedicated, but veneration of his person stretches back as far as early Christianity. A martyr identified with George is said to have lived in the third century. On the other hand, the legend of Saint George slaying the dragon is well known and widespread. He is usually depicted – in paintings or as a statue – as the conqueror of the monster, often as a knight on horseback. The memorial day of the very popular George - he is, among other things, the patron saint of the English kingdom - in the calendar of saints is on April 23rd.

Well worth seeing, there is a lot to discover - a lot of "treasures".
